Scholarship Information
THeSe SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOT PART OF AGS.
Alpha Gamma Sigma, or AGS, is the California Junior Community College Scholastic Honor Society. Our mission is to promote scholarship, character, and civic responsibility statewide in California's community colleges.
Dr. William T. Boyce, Head Administrator of Fullerton Junior College founded AGS in 1926. He saw in it an intellectual stimulus comparable to Phi Beta Kappa in the four-year institutions. With that in mind, AGS was structured to support college students in achieving their goals through providing resources needed for success--inspiring leadership, achievement and involvement in the community. As head administrator of Fullerton Community College, Dr. Boyce was chiefly responsible for the formation of the California community college honor society that eventually became the Alpha Gamma Sigma we know today.
All selected for their definitions, our Greek letters and name represent our motto: "Add to good character, knowledge, and judgment."
The Omega chapter at City College was established on the Phelan campus in the 1930's with the purpose of recognizing academic excellence, providing cultural and social events for members, and volunteering our services to the college and the community at large. For over 60 years we have awarded scholarships, provided opportunities for students to build lasting friendships, and sponsored campus service projects.
